Heart  of  England
Co-operative  Concert  Orchestra

David Weir

Name: David Weir
Instrument: Flute

How long have you played in Coop?  1989 (ish)

How long have you played the flute?  30 something years

Why did you take it up? I saw it being played and admired the sound it made and the way the light looks on a silver flute.

What do you love about playing with the Coop orchestra? I like the mix of music they play. There's a category of music called "light music" and most of what we play is in that category.

Why do you think an orchestra like Coop is important in the community? We do our best to be inclusive and we encourage people who aren't terribly confident to come and join in. When people say "I'd like to play my instrument" we don't audition them, we say "come and sit at the back and before you know you'll be playing". Also we raise lots of money for charity.

What would you say to someone thinking about taking up and instrument or playing with an orchestra like Coop? Do it. Come along, Join in. We'll encourage you.
