2017 - the Centenary Year of the Orchestra
We are a community orchestra made up of people of all ages and musical abilities. We perform around six concerts a year to bring live, light classical music to people of Coventry and Warwickshire. The concerts raise funds for local Charities. The Orchestra is sponsored and supported by the Heart of England Co-operative Society Limited.
The Durrell Concert on Saturday 25th March was a resounding success, and began our Centenary Year concert series in the grandest of manners. See our Centenary Year Page for further information.
We have begun preparation for the second and third concerts in our series. The second will be a private function but we will be playing a substantial part of this concert at our next public concert at St James Church in Tile Hill Lane, Coventry. See box on the right for a link to further details.
Some great photographs of the orchestra, old and new, provided by the Coventry Telegraph newspaper. Follow this link.
The orchestra has been on the BBC!
The orchestra played on BBC Coventry & Warwickshire radio between 10 am and 11 am on Friday 3rd February. We were invited to play three pieces live on air and Mark chose Pufffin' Billy, selection from King and I, and selection from Pirates of Penzance. This was a brilliant choice, fitting in well with the members who were able to be present and a sample of the type of music we play. It seemed to have been well received by the members of the BBC, and members of the public who had dropped in for the little concert.
We are actively seeking some additional players for 2017 - all interested musicians are invited to Look at the Join HOECCO page.
